BBAC Comittee Update 29/12/2020:
Firstly, I would like to give special thanks to every competitor, marshal and organiser for enabling BBAC to continue to run events during 2020. It really has been a tough year and without your efforts and flexibility we may have been forced simply to cancel all events as so many other clubs have had to do. I hope that this patience from all involved can continue into 2021 and allow us to have some fun out there when possible!
We have managed seven rounds of the 12 Car championships this year, and have decided that 5 of these will count towards standings. Results from all rounds and final standings can be found on the Results section of the website.
In addition, BBAC had 5 crews entered in this year’s Preston Rally organised by Chelmsford MC. You can check out everyone’s performance here. Craig and Alex had a fantastic result as always, while Jens and Rich finally made the finish on the third year of trying. Getting round the challenging route is a major achievement in itself, as the 32 retirements from a field of 81 entries shows, so big congratulations to Gav and Dave, Harry and Paul, and Billy and Rob. Billy kindly sent a few words about his first Preston as a competitor:
Billy and Rob thought that they would have a go at the Preston rally this year. So after bolting on a sump guard and tank guard and Harry’s old tyres (cheers Harry!) somehow managed to finish with some luck and never giving up! We did have a puncture, and the heater packed up for about half the event but then mysteriously fixed itself. Lost count of how many times we nearly got stuck however we did need towing out twice. Finishing 43rd out of 81 entries is a great achievement for our first attempt. Both crew and car took a hell of a beating; sump guard, steering arms and wishbones all bent badly but still managed the drive home. Will need to put the Puma on a ramp to see if there is any other damage, maybe next year…
P.S. Roughest event I’ve ever seen!Billy Johnson
We will continue to post details of any invited events on our calendar.
Friday 15th January will hopefully see our first 12 car of the new season, being organised and run by Nathan and Bill. Our calendar for 2021 still has a number of events without organisers and we will likely be running a reduced schedule due to both this and difficulties arising from the Covid pandemic. Under the current tier system, we will ensure routes do not enter any Tier 4 area, and competitors from Tier 4 regions should not enter our events (or should cancel entries). MSUK permitted events (including BBAC 12 Cars) are to be treated as supervised sport, and are therefore allowed in Tier 3 and below.
I would also like to remind members that an MSUK RS Clubman License is required to take part in BBAC’s 12 Cars. These are free-of-charge, must be renewed each calendar year (so renewal is now due) and can be applied for online here.
Finally, a reminder that our AGM (likely over Zoom) will be held on Wednesday 3rd February, with all noms and props to be submitted by 3 weeks prior.
All the best,
